Portrait Series
Photographed at Cloudehill Gardens in Olinda, Elodie is a medium format portrait series shot on a Mamiya RZ67 using colour negative film. The process was entirely analogue — slow, deliberate, and grounded in observation. Each frame was composed with care, but also allowed room for the unpredictability that comes with film: soft focus, slight motion, grain, and subtle exposure shifts. These so-called imperfections became part of the image’s character, echoing the wild, intentional beauty of the gardens themselves.
The overcast light provided a gentle, diffused glow, letting skin, foliage, and fabric sit in quiet balance. Rather than chasing technical precision, this series leans into atmosphere — using film’s inherent softness and depth to mirror the organic growth and elegance of the natural environment.
At its heart, Elodie is a study in control and surrender — in how a photographer composes, but nature and film respond in their own way. The result is a quiet, thoughtful portrait series where emotion, setting, and imperfection unfold in harmony.
